· Damaris Booklets.  Sometimes Laughter can be the best medicine.  “Damaris’ Booklets were created by the artist Damaris "Dee" Schulte while waging her five-year battle with breast cancer.  She gave copies of these booklets to her fellow patients in the hope of lightening their burdens and bringing smiles to their faces, if only for a little while.

Damaris filled each of the three, 12-page booklets with cartoon sketches portraying moments where she chose to see the lighter side of her battle. Her family has added a lighthearted biography along with information on the Damaris Fine Arts Award Fund.

To continue her desire to make her booklets available to other cancer patients, and to help grow the Fund,. Damaris’ family is offering copies of the booklets, in exchange for a donation to the Fund, to those who would like to distribute them ina nonprofit manner.  Some space on the back cover of each booklet has been reserved for the donor to affix their own label identifying them as a partner in making the booklets available to their patients.”

Booklets are available at QuixWorks.   For more information on obtaining copies of the Damaris’ Booklets please contact Carole Kody, The Educational Excellence Foundation, 734.416.2718, email: KodyC@pccs.k12.mi.us

The name “Pentimento” comes from the title of a book by Lillian Hellman.  The introduction of Pentimento is as follows:  “Old paint on canvas, as it ages, sometimes becomes transparent.  When that happens it is possible, in some pictures, to see the original lines:  a tree will show thorugh a woman’s dress, a child makes way for a dog, a large boat is no longer on an open sea.  That is called pentimento because the painter ‘repented,’ change dhis mind. Perhaps it would be as well to say that the old conception, relaced by a later choice, is a way of seeing and then seeing again.

That is all I mean about the people in this book. The paint has aged now and I wanted to see what was thee for me once, what is there for me now.
