BASKING: Butterflies are "cold-blooded" which really means that they do not generate enough heat from their own metabolism to provide them with the heat and energy they need to fly.

 

Therefore, butterflies rely on heat absorbed from the sun. You might see butterflies with their wings outstretched sitting in a patch of sunlight. They can raise their internal temperature higher than the temperature around them in a way somewhat analogous to how the interior of a car heats up hotter than the air around it on a sunny day.

 

This need to absorb heat from their environment is the reason why so many butterflies have darkly colored bodies.

Get Healthy, Stay Healthy.  Decrease stress.  Tune out the nonsense

Increase physical activity.  Go for a walk.  Don’t fret.  If you know something isn’t good for you, don’t do it.

 

 

Know yourself.  Identify your personal heath risk factors.  Make a list of what gives you pep, energy and vigor.

 

 

Habits & Choices.  Choose habits that make you hale and hearty: walk, rest, sleep.  Discard habits that take your breath away & hurt your heart & pancreas.

Do good deeds for your body, mind & spirit.

 

 

Arithmetic  -  Know your numbers.  Friends and Families’ birthdays and anniversaries.  Cholesterol, blood pressure, weight, blood sugar, bank account.

 

 

Watch, Pay Attention, Notice.  Don’t be afraid of tests: paps, mammograms, colonoscopy (after 50 yrs of age), bone density, cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar, eyes, teeth, and skin.

 

 

Address Book.  Call friends and families … often.  Keep in Touch with your Doctors, Dentists, Eye Doctor.

 

 

Really know all your body parts and systems – Use them wisely.

Count your fingers and toes.  Respect your feet, hands, neck, brains, eyes, ears & eyes.  Support your systems: cardiovascular, respiratory, musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, integumentary, hematological, immune, neurological, endocrine, sensory.

 

 

Get Older and Be Healthy.  Sprout wings, fly, bloom.  Use your skills to deal with all the changes that happen as you age.  Do whatever you need to do to become a healthy, happy old lady.

 

 

Be sensible.  Smell a rose.  Look up, look down, look all around.  Listen to music that makes your heart beat faster.  Touch others with care.  Taste food that will make your body work well.

 

 

Shop and Spend your Resources on food that makes your body healthy.  Buy wonderful food.  Buy less packaged food.  Chew slowly, enjoy each bite.

 

 

Laugh.  Have Fun.  Throw away your “To-Do” List.  Look in the mirror—smile, get rid of the scowl.
