Once upon a time, there was an Old Woman who lived in a Shoe.

Volume 2
August 2006

She had a lot of children, but she knew what to do. Her children all did well in school and helped around the house. They were polite, loving and respectful. She and her husband had done a fabulous job raising all of their children.
She took care of everyone, but didn’t leave much time for herself. She couldn’t remember the last time she just sat down and read a good book. She didn’t mind, but she was human after all and she did feel a little worn out. One day, for no reason at all, her husband and many children gave her a large bouquet of flowers and an envelope. (It wasn’t even her birthday or Mother’s Day, but they wanted her to know how much they appreciated everything she did for them.)
Inside the envelope was a gift certificate for a massage, not just one massage, but an appointment for a massage every week for an entire year.
As it turned out, the old woman wasn’t really that old. Thanks to the weekly massage appointments and the kindness of her husband and children, she was peppy and perky and energetic, just like she was when she was a little girl.
The old woman kept every appointment. At the end of the year, her family gave her another large bouquet of flowers and another envelope, which contained another gift certificate for weekly massage appointments for another year. And the whole family lived happily ever after.

Update on the Old Woman who lived in a Shoe.

Volume 2
January 2007:

The Old Woman who lived in a shoe had a lot of children, but she always knew what to do. Even though her children were polite, loving respectful, did well in school, and helped around the house. Her husband was loving, kind, considerate and helpful. But the Old Woman still had a lot to do.

Last year for Mother’s Day her many children and loving husband gave her gift certificates for weekly massages. It was wonderful. It was refreshing to be cared for. Every week, she returned home after her appointment, feeling renewed and rejuvenated. It was a weekly dose of fresh air.

She was no longer an Old Woman with a lot of kids, she felt like she did when she was a Young Chick. She looked great, smiling, healthy, youthful.

During Christmas Eve dinner, one of her children suggested “Mom, the Massages have worked. You’re fixed, and maybe you don’t need to go for a weekly massage therapy appointment anymore.” When she realized what her child said, she gasped. Her face transformed from Young Chick to Old Woman to Really Old Woman in the blink of an eye.

She wanted to protest. She didn’t know what to say. He hadn’t suggested an alternative to the massages, just declared she didn’t need the massages any more.

When all of a sudden, her husband of many years, stood up and said, I have an announcement to make, “Your mother must have time out every week. I was going to wait till Christmas, but I think she needs to open these two presents now. The large present had a small piece of paper in it: a gift certificate for a weekly therapeutic massage for the rest of her life.”

The smaller box had another piece of paper in it: “To our loving mother and wife: We insist that you take a second day each week to do whatever you need to be a healthy, happy women.”

The child who suggested that she didn’t need to go for a weekly massage anymore, was smiling like a cheshire cat, “Just kidding, mom. Had you going there for a minute.”

As the woman realized what her family had given her, she re-transformed from the really old lady to the young chick once again. The woman kissed her husband and many giggling children. She looked around the table at her beautiful family and smiled – which made her even more beautiful.

She never missed an appointment with the massage therapist. And it was just what she needed… to be a happy healthy woman, … wife and mother.

March 10, 2007:

The Old Woman thought that getting a weekly massage was so beneficial to her health, she told all her friends. And slowly but surely she was able to convince her friends to join her.
It wasn’t long before everyone of her friends were getting a weekly massage. Walking, walking, walking. Eating nutritious foods. And, yes, once in a while, they’d have a delicious ice cream cone. And at the end of the day, they were able to fall asleep quickly, stay asleep, had pleasant dreams, and woke up refreshed and cheerful.

       Update on the Old Woman
                                                who lived in a Shoe.

February 2, 2008:

The Old Woman fell down and broke her leg.
She had to have surgery and have pins and plates placed in both bones in her leg. The doctor said she had to wear the cast for 6 weeks and then go through 6 weeks of physical therapy. “What about massage therapy?” asked the old woman.
The doctor said, “Of course. You can get a massage while you’re wearing your cast. And receiving a massage when you’re going through physical therapy is an excellent idea. Moderate exercise and massage therapy will be beneficial for your long-term recovery. It will help with flexibility, strengthening and range of motion.”
So the old woman went to physical therapy, did all the exercises faithfully and had a weekly massage to help her aching body. Months after her cast was off and physical therapy was concluded. She exercised and continued to receive weekly massage therapy. And she felt energetic, refreshed and cheerful.
